Alika Hope, Dexter Pettaway, Lawrence V. White, and other members of The Ray of Hope Project will be performing an interactive musical tour through history. Included in this musical journey are songs in honor of events that happened on September 24th, songs that tell the stories of different people in U.S. History, and readings from heroes-both known and unknown. The Ray of Hope Project aims to entertain, teach, and also leave hope in the hearts of all who attend. Audience members of all ages are welcome!
The Ray of Hope Project was founded by Alika Hope in 2013. ROH includes 12 musicians and other performers. It's original goal was using African-American spirituals and the readings of 19th-century abolitionists of various cultural and religious backgrounds in order to teach U.S. history and encourage dialogue between people of different backgrounds. ROH now also incorporates the music and lyrics of 20th/21st century songs as a way of creating conversations around current issues of global social justice-while spreading hope at the same time. Hope for a Motherless Child, our first album, won a Gold Mom's Choice Award, a Creative Child Magazine award, and a Gold Global Music Award. In 2017 ROH released the single Oh, Freedom! to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Oh, Freedom! was awarded a Silver Global Music Award. In 2024 The Ray of Hope Project was featured in the book Democracy as Creative Practice (Taylor & Francis). The Ray of Hope Project produces the Alika Hope and Change podcast, and coaches individuals and organizations around the world.
