Event Details

The Connecticut River Costal Conservation District is excited to announce the next film in The Elements: An Annual Environmental Film Series!   Farming While Black will have a screening on Saturday, February 1, 2025.  As always, the film is open to the public and free of charge. The screening will be at 2 pm at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown, CT.

As described on the film's website, Farming While Black examines the historical plight of Black farmers in the United States and the rising generation of Black farmers reclaiming their rightful ownership to land and reconnecting with their ancestral roots. The film features Leah Penniman, the co-founder of Soul Fire Farm in upstate New York, who finds strength in the deep historical knowledge of African agrarianism – agricultural practices that can heal people and the planet. You can watch the film trailer here.

A facilitated discussion will follow the film with Héctor Gerardo and Elizabeth A. Guerra of Seamarron Farmstead in Danbury.
