Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut, Inc. will be available in the Russell Library lobby to answer questions related to services they provide. People may also submit a pre-application and, if the person is income eligible, they will receive a call back for legal advice. Please stop by their table to learn more. (Please note: SLS cannot provide direct legal representation at this drop-in event).
Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut, Inc. (“SLS”) is a non-profit legal aid organization whose mission is to empower low-income people in Connecticut to obtain justice by providing tools to address their civil legal needs. SLS provides legal information on-line through its website www.CTLawHelp.org and direct legal advice through its legal aid hotline, and advises low-income people on legal issues which include:
- Housing (tenant rights, eviction, repairs, security deposit, rent increases)
- Family (divorce, custody, visitation, child support and restraining/protective orders)
- Public benefits (Medicaid, SNAP, TFA, SSI/SSDI, discharge from rehabilitation home)
- Unemployment
